User Comments: Top of the line!
This is without a doubt the best handheld GPS unit on the market today. The SIRF III chipset is far more sensitive that other receivers. I started with a Garmin eTrex Vista unit that was very good, but it lost its signal lock under almost any forest canopy, and in any deep canyon. That’s why I upgraded to the 60 Csx. It gets far better reception in the woods, which is important for hiking and geocaching.

Be aware, though, that the unit does … Read more user comments on the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx

Garmin eTrex Venture
Best system under $150 |Save big today through Amazon.

User Comments:Amazing geocaching unit at a good price
Before buying this new Venture HC, I had spent many hours trekking with several of the original eTrex models over the years. I think it’s fair to say that while the concept of the original eTrex was great, the execution was frequently disappointing.

It disappoints no more. The Venture HC is the eTrex perfected. It remedies almost every shortcoming that…Read more user comments on the Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS

3. Garmin GPSMAP 62S Handheld GPS

Garmin GPSMAP 62S Handheld GPS
Fully Featured GPS System (Full of bells and whistles) |Save over 00 today from Amazon

User Comments: WOW, this is one amazing GPS
I can’t get over how well the 62s gets a satellite signal…even indoors! I’m in my home office with a couple of small windows and just turned on the unit, after having it turned off for a couple of weeks: It booted and acquired the first satellite in less than 60 seconds and can navigate in less than 90 seconds, with four out of 5 bars on my signal strength meter. When I turned it off and then on again, I was able to navigate as soon as it booted…in 20 seconds. It seems to “remember” what satellites are overhead and spends less time searching for signals if it has recently acquired a … Read other user comments of the Garmin GPSMap 62S

4. Magellan eXplorist GC Waterproof Geocaching GPS

Magellan eXplorist GC Waterproof Geocaching GPS
Best Waterproof Handheld Navigator | Save over 20% from Amazon today

User Comments: A well-priced, well-made geocaching device for neophytes and those on a budget

I just started geocaching recently with my kids. I looked at various reviews and was thinking of getting the GP-40 based on various information, but decided against that. I wanted a GPS that was purely for caching. I tried the jr Explorer, but the device was really lacking (did work however). I ordered the Magellen, loaded the batteries, powered it on and was ready to go. No need to plug it in to the PC or anything. Activated my trial membership and was able to send caches directly to the GPS without any issues. I have used it for about a week in different terrain. It is very accurate, has a lot of useful information about … Read other user comments on the Magellan eXplorist GC

5. Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS

Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS Navigator
Best entry level GPS Handheld| Save today on Amazon

User Comments: Best entry level unit
This is my primary Geocaching GPS. The high sensitivity chip has the same strong processing power, and thus signal sensitivity and position resolution, as any of the more expensive units. It gives me excellent accuracy in areas where my older GPS units just … Read other user comments on the Garmin eTrex H GPS
