I got the Garmin Nuvi 650 last week and its an amazing system. It is the 3rd gps system that I have owned and definitely the best, I would recommend it to anyone.
I agree with the recommendation on the Garmin Nuvi 350, its a great unit that has a very simple and easy to use interface, it is compact and easy to carry and it has the most important feature in a gps system imho Text to speech where it announces proper street names like “Turn left on 1st Avenue” instead of “Turn left in 100ft”
