We have always favored Garmin over Magellan, the mapping systems on Garmin are a little better, so go for the Garmin

I recently purchased a Magellan 4040. Previoulsy, I was using a Garmin 350. Now, I do enjoy the fact that one can find a route without going on the highways and avoiding tolls using the Magellan. Can the Garmin 650 do this? Also, I am a little dissatisfied with a couple things that are featured on the Magellan: First off, when you are coming to a turn, it does not tell you how many feet are left to make that turn, as the Garmin does. Secondly, the map is hard to read on the Magellan.

However, there are a lot of good features on the Magellan.

I am contemplating returning my Magellan 4040 for the Garmin 650. Which do you think is a better buy for a guy who drives around Chicago and occasionally makes a long trip?

Thanks,
