Does anyone know where to send a Navigon 2100 GPS off to so it can get repaired? I can't get any answers from technical support because they can only be contacted by email. I have emailed them three times and have never gotten a response. I bought my GPS at Radio Shack and they sent it off to their repair people and they had it for three weeks. When I went to pick it up they said I had to sent it to Navigon to get fixed, and they didn't know the address. My warranty is up at the end of this month and i can't get any answers. If anyone knows where to send your GPS off to so it can get fixed I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I thin for the money you can't go wrong with the Navigon. Garmins are way too expensive and don't do anything better than the 2100

Amy, have you experimented with the option to change the way routes are calculated? I don't have my Navigon in front of me at the moment, but I recall it having about 4 different ways you could calculate routes - including things like "quickest" or "preferred".

I found that sometimes, I could prevent it from coming up with some rather odd routes if I picked a different default from those choices. You may have to play with that to see if a particular setting generally calculates more "sensible" routes for you.

I'd also agree that the Garmin does a pretty good job with routing, all in all. I used one of their GPS's pretty extensively, a couple years ago. It, too, sometimes did wacky stuff though, like routing me through sub-divisions full of twists and turns, just to come back out on a main road I would have been FAR better off getting to another way. To an extent, it's the nature of these devices. You can minimize it but not eliminate it.

The routing engine is the software on a GPS that decides which route the unit should choose to get from one location to another. If comparisons are done between Gps systems, most results usually put Garmin machines as having the best routing engines

We just purchaced the Navigon 2100Max. ($249 at RadioShack) There are many options that you can choose to have one or "select" (which I personally love) such as the POI's ... you can choose which ones you want to see and which ones you don't. All a matter of checking a box. My fiancee, however is a bit frustrated with it. We have never used a GPS system let alone bought one so it has been a learning experience for the both of us. He takes a certain route to work everyday and the unit told him to go a funny way that he didn't agree with. (No big deal in my opinion!!) But he is to the point of taking the unit back. Do all units ($$ and not so $$) give you funny directions sometimes? We have gotten directions from Mapquest.com and Googlemaps.com and more often than not they will give you a more accurate route. Why do the GPS unit differ? Please someone help a newbie!! I know some things but still very green to the important stuff!!

I had recently purchased the Navigon 2100 from Staples for $120! Which seems to be the cheapest I've found it so far. The unit in my opinion is accurate and great all around. Only problems I have with it:

Rather difficult to input address info; (something you don't want to do driving)
Not many POI's; (I'd like to see more)

Other than that, it is great!
Don't hesitate to get one.

PS: I use a small strip of velcro vs the suction cup and works better and is easier to remove.

Robert, the Navigon doesn't come with much of anything for instructions in the box - but the entire manual is available to download and print out (if you like) on Navigon's web site.

This has been quite common for years now in the world of computer products. It saves money to just post a scanned copy of the printed manual on the Internet, vs. paying a printing place to run off thousands of printed manuals to package in with each box (making the boxes heavier and most costly to ship to customers too).

I know it's a little inconvenient, and some people just like having a professionally printed instruction book. But I'm actually ok with this practice, all in all. It can be really handy if you need to see the instructions and you're not at the location you left your printed manual. You can just go download another one to look at.
