Garmin takes over from Tomtom



Garmin is now the GPS global market leader taking the top spot away from Tomtom. Garmin shipped 1.85 million units for a 24.9 percent global market share in the second quarter. TomTom shipped 1.81 million units for a 24.3 percent market share.

“We continue to focus on what we do best, which is innovating stuff,” Garmin spokesman Ted Gartner said. “We’ve always contended that those who make the best products win.”

The top GPS device manufactures for market share in the second quater:

  1. Garmin – 24.9%
  2. TomTom – 24.3%
  3. Mio Technology – 9.2%
  4. Magellan – 5.7%
  5. Navman – 3.1%
  6. Others – 32.9% (Like Lowrance, Nextar, Uniden etc.)
